Meet John Miller
John Miller is the radio play-by-play voice of the Southern Illinois University Salukis women’s basketball program. The 2019-2020 season will mark his first year calling games for the Salukis.
Prior to Southern Illinois, Miller spent nine years as the radio voice of the Drury University Panthers (NCAA-II). During that time, Miller had the honor of broadcasting the men's basketball national championship run in 2013 and had his call of its Final Four victory picked up by Dial Global Sports (now Westwood One) and played for a national audience. Miller also had the call for the 2015 GEICO Play of the Year, broadcasted on CBS TV during GEICO's "Best of College Basketball" show on a Saturday afternoon during March Madness.
In the last two years, Miller called select Evangel University (NAIA) football games on the Crusader Sports Network and has broadcasted high school football in the Springfield area for the past 12 years. After working on the No. 1 Friday Night Football broadcast team for Jock 98.7 FM for six years, Miller has spent the last six years as the voice of the Mount Vernon High School Mountaineers. He also has four years of minor league baseball broadcast experience, both with the Springfield Cardinals (AA) and the Auburn Doubledays (Washington Nationals A-affiliate). With the Cardinals, Miller spent two years alongside current Milwaukee Brewers' broadcaster Jeff Levering.
During his time at Drury, Miller also broadcasted soccer, volleyball, baseball, and softball games. He was behind the microphone for the NCAA-II Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Network in 2017, 2018, and 2019, broadcasting the conference's baseball championship tournament. He was also the lead broadcaster for the NCAA-II Midwest Regional volleyball tournament in the fall of 2019.
Lauded by his colleagues for his work, Miller was named an All-American by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America (STAA) in 2011. The distinction came after Miller was ranked as the nation's ninth best collegiate broadcaster (and the only broadcaster not from a NCAA-I school) by a panel of judges that included University of Arkansas voice Chuck Barrett, Indiana Pacers voice Mark Boyle, Atlanta Falcons voice Wes Durham, Ohio State University voice Paul Keels, and Learfield IMG College VP Tom Boman.
Play-by-Play Broadcaster, Missouri State University -Pre/Post-Game Host, Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network
"John is a pro and a self-starter. He took the initiative to gain play-by-play experience in empty booths while still in high school, and thus was prepared when on-air opportunities came along while he was in college. John is always extremely well-prepared, describes the action precisely with the right mix of excitement and light-heartedness -- it is a game, but one with much passion, which he conveys. He is also a person of great character and dependability.
He has already called an NCAA Division II national championship game, and would be able to handle any assignment. I wholeheartedly endorse John as a broadcast professional, and personally."
Play-by-Play Broadcaster, Milwaukee Brewers Radio Network
"John is the most diligent worker an employer could possibly hire. His tireless work ethic has produced a high quality broadcaster; one that I would enjoy working with again in the future."
